Michel Istas SJ r\u00e9fl\u00e9chit sur les conditions du progr\u00e8s chez Charles P\u00e9rin, Max Weber et le Pape Fran\u00e7ois. L\u2019id\u00e9e du renoncement para\u00eet essentielle \u00e0 l\u2019auteur pour garantir non seulement le progr\u00e8s, mais sa p\u00e9rennit\u00e9 dans l\u2019espace. Deogratias Rwezaura SJ, quant \u00e0 lui, revisite la question de la guerre du point de vue des victimes de guerre. Il analyse la pertinence de la th\u00e9orie de la guerre juste dans ses trois dimensions face aux destructions et aux trag\u00e9dies humaines que les conflits arm\u00e9s engendrent. La condition des victimes de guerre rend difficile une quelconque justification morale de la guerre en soi. Pour Rwezaura, il s\u2019agit de repenser le discours \u00e9thique autour de la guerre. Joseph Lo\u00efc Mben SJ, quant \u00e0 lui, explore la notion du p\u00e9ch\u00e9 social. Il d\u00e9montre comment le mod\u00e8le institutionnel venu de l\u2019\u00e9conomie du d\u00e9veloppement peut permettre de remplacer des structures de p\u00e9ch\u00e9 par des structures de gr\u00e2ce. Le mod\u00e8le institutionnel permet de d\u00e9cortiquer la composition d\u2019une structure et les institutions-cl\u00e9s qui la composent. Le colonialisme sert de cas d\u2019\u00e9tude pour illustrer comment les diff\u00e9rentes institutions \u00e0 l\u2019oeuvre dans une structure peuvent \u00eatre transform\u00e9es radicalement en structures de gr\u00e2ce. Dans un registre compl\u00e8tement diff\u00e9rent, Paul Emile Tang Abomo SJ explore la place de l\u2019Afrique dans la politique \u00e9trang\u00e8re nord-am\u00e9ricaine. Il montre que, malgr\u00e9 la rh\u00e9torique officielle, la promotion des droits humains et la d\u00e9mocratisation en Afrique, occupent une place n\u00e9gligeable dans la politique \u00e9trang\u00e8re des Etats-Unis d\u2019Am\u00e9rique. A travers les cas de l\u2019apartheid en Afrique du Sud et de la Somalie, l\u2019auteur illustre le difficile \u00e9quilibre entre les int\u00e9r\u00eats strat\u00e9giques, d\u2019une part, et les valeurs \u00e9thiques, d\u2019autre part. In 1861, Charles P\u00e9rin pointed out that an essential one is the willingness not to remain idle and to renounce the gratification made possible by new discoveries. By calling its faithful to such a renunciation, P\u00e9rin argued, Christianity has made the development of Western countries possible. Max Weber has defended a similar thesis when he described inner-worldly asceticism, as promoted by Calvinism. Pope Francis also acknowledges that sacrifices must be made, to ensure that progress will endure and benefit all peoples. The author uses colonialism as a case study. The first two sections look at the reality of social sin with its complexities. The institutional model, which is initially borrowed from development economics, is a strategic tool designed to positively change society\u2019s structures and institutions. It is predicated on the assumption that human beings are social beings and not monads. There are five key institutions to look at, namely, norms, organizations, regulations, incentives and capacities. The essay\u2019s moral argument or ethical perspective is based on the silent, unnoticed sufferings and deaths of those whose voices I would like to raise in objecting to the use of war to solve human conflicts. It is these moral agents, subjects of their own rights, whom wars oftentimes turn into objects and means to achieve the belligerents\u2019 interests. These silent victims\u2019 dignity is worthy of recognition, protection and respect. It is on the basis of human dignity that I see moral inconsistency in arguing for a justifiable use of armed violence on ethical grounds. However, when national interests clash with normative goals, the choice has clearly been in favor of national interests. When the balance has tilted in favor of humanitarian intervention, the decisive factor has been media coverage. The ascension to the presidency of Barack Obama, the first African American president, did little to reverse these structural imperatives of power projection.
