Entre obéissance anticipée et révolte. Actualité de Frantz Fanon dans le contexte des relations économiques entre l´Afrique et l´Europe.

In the current article the author adresses a endogenous cause of fundamentalism, namely the anticipated obedience by African heads of State and of government. It is an interiorisation of Africa’s domination : African leaders act like or even worse than the former colonial powers, disadvantaging their own people. The author defends the idea that anticipated obedience is a fertile ground for fundamentalism and terrorism like violent islamist djihadism. Frantz Fanon helps to argue for this position and he brings in mind again the project of independance initiated by the founders of African independences but betrayed by most of their successors, for example through economic partnership agreements that aren’t profitable for Africans.

La traversée du désert, chemin de dialogue entre l’Afrique et l’Europe

The current communication pleads for a new integral humanism and a new ethics of encounter in the relationship between Africa and Europe. Its starting point is the metaphor of the crossing of the desert experienced by subsaharian migrants to Europe : the crossing of the desert challenges them so much in time and space that they cannot succeed whithout perseverance ; it confronts the to the lack of reference and of rootedness necessary for self humanisation. Africa and Europe together can cross together the desert of globalisation and fundamentalism only if with perseverance they build up an integral humanism in their concrete cultures overcoming their own limits, using the means of intercultural dialogue which aims at a just social order and a harmonious living together ; having also recourse to the edification of an collective understanding of religion which puts a brake on fundamentalism, preventing it from feeding on the ongoing process of globalisation.

La formation du sens historique comme critère de différenciation des courants islamiques contemporains

The current statement helps to understand the concept of “history” that underlines “Islamic” discourses. It sheds a light on the epistemic relationship of “Islamic” movements to the primitive Islamic community by showing its historical evolution. Thereby this relationship appears as the product of the encounter between muslim tradition and the concept of history used during the Enlightments; hence it is a product of the globalisation of thinking.

La conférence internationale sur le thème « Mondialisation et fondamentalisme religieux : un défi pour les relations entre l’Afrique et l’Europe » qui s’est tenue au sein du Campus de l’Institut de Théologie de la Compagnie de Jésus (ITCJ) du 23 au 24 février 2017 avait pour objectif de s’interroger sur les interactions entre le fondamentalisme religieux d’une part et les relations entre l’Europe et l’Afrique d’autre part. Se voulant interdisciplinaire et interculturelle afin d’offrir un espace de dialogue ouvert répondant à la complexité de la problématique du fondamentalisme religieux dans un monde globalisé, elle a adopté la progression suivante : après une mise en contexte et une analyse du fondamentalisme religieux dans le contexte de la mondialisation, les problèmes et les défis que pose le fondamentalisme religieux dans les relations Europe-Afrique devaient être identifiés et traités selon les perspectives de l’exégèse, de l’histoire coranique, des rapports économiques entre l’Europe et l’Afrique, de la philosophie, de la théologie et des sciences religieuses. Pour clore le tout, des analyses concrètes de problèmes de sociétés devaient ouvrir des pistes de solutions à même de relever les défis susmentionnés. La transversalité des regards interculturels devait aider à ouvrir des perspectives nouvelles sur les relations entre l’Europe et l’Afrique. C’est également cette progression que le présent rapport final des travaux s’efforce de suivre. Il y ajoute un écho des échanges qui ont eu lieu en plénière sous forme de questions-débats ou de podium de discussion. Il s’achève par les recommandations faites par les participants.

« Pourquoi ? » Des facteurs du terrorisme à caractère religieux comme phénomène sociopolitique moderne

Worldwide media reports provide an unreflected and warped image of relations prior to the rise of terrorism. The present paper intends to examine the causes and factors of the social and political phenomenon of terrorism and concentrates on religious motivations of terrorist actions. After a conceptual and definitional discussion on « terrorism », the paper follows the classification of this phenomenon in a social framework in order to identify possible causes and factors. Then, it focuses on the religious components of this phenomenon before adding an historical perspective. Finally, it goes back to the ambivalency of the various religions and traditions and concludes that the relationship between religion and terrorism is contingent and plausibel rather than necessary

European fundamentalism ? The theopolitics of Friedrich August von Hayek and Alain de Benoist

The article investigates the thinking of two intellectual figures whose work is in the centre of ideologies that can be regarded as forms of a European fundamentalism : the Austrian economist Friedrich August von Hayek, founding father and most important theorist of neoliberalism, and the French philosopher Alain de Benoist, key intellectual of Europe’s “new right”. The author deconstructs the hidden theological matrix which is at the heart of these ideologies. He outlines their relevance for the configuration of present and future African-European relations and analyses in which way they can be regarded as fundamentalist. It is shown how both ideologies claim to interpret the totality of reality using a binary logic of “either-or”, how both refer to some sort of divine being, and how they immunise themselves against critique. The analysis suggests that the common ground of as well religious as economic or political forms of fundamentalism lies not so much in the reference to a specific “truth” but in the will itself to have clear and strong distinctions.

Religion Traditionnelle Africaine et fondamentalisme : Contribution au débat sur la religion et la violence

The current communication adresses the propensity of the Traditional African Religion to lead to fundamentalism and extremism. It goes back to the pharaonic roots of the Traditional African Religion, namely to the myth of Isis and Osiris, to show its non fundamentalist origin. The religious openess of Traditional African Religion is still noticeable in the coexistence of different religions in the same social entity. The scarcity of evidence pointing to a violent extremism brings the author to emphasise the possibility of « extremism in religion » which is the outgrowth of a religion above its limits due to reasons related to various circumstances. The encounter with the West, with the Judaeo-Christian tradition, with the islam and the challenges which go along with these encounters have a negative impact on african societies, since they tend to cut themselves off from their anthropological roots which are in favor of religious diversity.
